About me
Hello! I'm Jenny, I am a licensed clinical social worker. Since graduating from IU School of Social work in 2011, my focus has mostly been on those with intellectual disabilities and mental health issues. I have worked with several individuals on the autism spectrum, as well as individuals with Down's syndrome, ADHD, Bi-polar disorder, GAD, among others. I have worked as a behavior therapist for the past 8 years and am looking to continue to help others through additional platforms.
I believe it is important to focus on the individual and determine what works best for each person. I tend to focus more on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) as well as utilizing a strength based approach. Overall, I would say I utilize an individualized eclectic approach.
I find it extremely important to help our youth in their emotion regulation and finding appropriate coping skills while they are young and are able to set themselves up with healthy choices moving into adulthood. Assisting youth in developing these skills and helping them understand their emotions leads to improved mental health throughout life.

Reviews
These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Jennifer "Jenny" Nelson. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with Teen Counseling might be different.
Jenny has been very helpful to my 14 year old son. He says he enjoys talking to her and feels like he can open up more than he can with us.
Very good
She listens well
And doesn't ever feel like judgement
Jenny takes the time to listen, to make a person feel heard. She listens very well, takes in everything you confide in her with, and comes up with great solutions to the problems people face.
Jenny has been working with me for about a year now. I was always very shy to the use of talk therapy, often left with feelings of not being heard by others. Jenny is the absolute opposite of that, she takes time to let me speak openly. Working with Jenny has taught me how to utilize boundary setting, accepting and not accepting certain treatment in different relationships. My confidence has grown, I feel as though I have a better control of my emotions. There have been times that I have been late/ missed my appointments due to emergencies. Jenny never makes me feel poorly for that, she instead asks if I am okay and we proceed. Jenny is exceptional at what she is doing and I always look forward to meeting with her.
Jenny has been very helpful, kind and understanding. She makes sure to address an issues that we feel of concern and works to find solution

Jenny speaks very respectfully and thoughtfully, she always makes me feel comfortable and gives me the ability to open up!
Jenny’s ability to listen and allow me time to process has been invaluable. I appreciate the way she takes diligent notes and can refer to past sessions as a way to help connect therapeutic dots. Jenny asks great questions and always remains focused on me.
Jenny is a very kind and observant individual. She'll notice a change in my tone or facial expression and respond with kindness. This helps to where I don't try to put the "mask" back on and try to hide my emotions or feelings. I highly recommend Jenny.

Jenny is kind, compassionate, patient, and really helps me determine whether my thoughts are based on my own projections onto others or true examinations of the facts in front of me. I feel the positive impacts of our sessions every week.
